When Northwest Bible Church started renovations on its classroom buildings, children's minister Paul DeHaven cringed at the thought of painting over the beloved artwork that lined the hallways.
The classic Old Testament stories of Earth's creation and Noah's ark had adorned the walls for more than 25 years. Many children had favorite animals they stopped and looked at on their way to Sunday school.
But with the church finishing the first phase of its multimillion-dollar renovation project on its children's building, a total makeover was in order. During the planning process this past spring, DeHaven struggled with a way to decorate the space that kids would like while staying within a tight budget.
Little did DeHaven know that he had artists within his own congregation who would take on the project and allow the nondenominational church to save money for future renovation projects.
